Standing with Overseas Prisoners: Rabia Bibi’s Case

In August 2025, Justice Project Pakistan secured the release of Rabia Bibi, a Pakistani mother of two who had been imprisoned in Al-Buraydah prison, Saudi Arabia. Rabia had travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of work in early 2024 and was arrested shortly after her arrival in the Al-Qassim region. Despite repeated appearances before the Qazi, she remained unaware of the charges against her and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

JPP’s legal team worked closely with her family, engaged with Pakistan’s embassy in Riyadh, and pursued avenues under the Prisoner Transfer Agreement to ensure her protection. After months of advocacy and coordination with authorities, Rabia was released and has safely reunited with her husband, children, and extended family in Multan.

Her case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by Pakistani women abroad and the urgent need for stronger safeguards, fair trial guarantees, and transparent consular support for overseas prisoners. Rabia’s safe return home stands as an important reminder of why JPP continues to fight for the rights and dignity of Pakistani citizens everywhere.
